Monday 22nd to Friday 26th of August is Book Week.
At The Lakes, we love reading books. And last Thursday we had a Book Week dress up celebration parade.
We dressed up as our favourite book characters and paraded our costumes around the EY gym.

Fun on the Farm in Term Three
Term Three has begun at The Lakes.
This term in Prep we are learning about Farms.
So far we've discussed what we already know about farms, and what we would like to learn about farms.
We are reading books about different types of farm animals, and different types of farms.
During Investigation, we have been demonstrating our knowledge of farms with pictures and building.
We go on our first excursion to Bundoora Park in a few weeks which we are very excited about. We get to visit a working farm!
Until then...

Did you know that pancakes begins with the letter 'p'?
Did you know that pink pancakes also starts with the letter 'p'?
Did you know what pleasant pink pancakes starts with the letter 'p'?
Did you know that we were too busy eating our pleasant pink pancakes to take photos of us eating our pleasant pink pancakes?
We only have photos of us preparing our pleasant pink pancakes.

The CFA visit
On Tuesday morning, Adrian, Michael and Steven from South Morang CFA paid us a visit as part of our Community Helpers unit.
They brought in their firetruck and showed us all of the equipment on the firetruck. Steve showed us lots of super long hoses, hose triggers and ladders. We got to sit in the truck and put the sirens on. The best part was some of us even got to shoot the firehose. The water shot out really far and high into the sky.
Michael and Adrian talked about their uniform. It is very heavy and the CFA firefighters need to carry lots of equipment when they are on a job. The have helmets and oxygen tanks to breathe clean air during a fire.
They also taught us what to do if there is a fire in our home. When the smoke rises, we need to 'Get down low and go, go, go!' Or if any of our clothes catch fire, we need to 'Stop, drop and roll!'
We would like to thank Adrian, Michael and Steven for coming to visit us. We learned a lot about what the CFA do and what to do if we see a fire.
Angie: I liked the fire engine. It was fun.
Thomas: I saw the firetruck had a hose and a ladder.

This Lemonade can't get any sweeter...
Hi there
You may or may not have known that we where learning about the letter 'l' last week. We learned about the sound it makes, we made a list of things that start with 'l' (including a list), and finally we made some super sweet Lemonade.
We checked our recipe to make sure we had the correct ingredients and followed the right procedure.
First there was the lemon squeezing.
We ended up with a drink that tasted remarkably like Lemonade.
Lovely!
